Samoa Tsunami News

A devastating tsunami, triggered by an 8.2 eartquake, struck Samoa and American Samoa on the morning of the 30th September 2009. The tsunami caused severe damage and loss of life along the south coast of Upolu destroying the majority of beach fales including Taufua Beach Fales, and causing substantial damage to the following resorts: Seabreeze Hotel, Vavau Beach Fales, Ili Ili Resort, Sinalei Resort and Coconuts Resort. The tsunami caused only minor damage at Virgin Cove and Sa'Moana on the south west coast of Upolu and did not cause any damage to Aggie Grey Lagoon Resort or the hotels in Apia on the north coast of Upolu, nor on the north coast of Savaii.
